- The Tressilian river is just 5 minutes away (image below) for a peaceful stroll, wonderful estuary views & abundant wildlife with pubs for those lunchtime stops!
- Family fun including underground mine tours, farm visits, go karting, water sports and several theme parks.
- Truro is just 6 miles, the cathedral capital city of Cornwall, for artisan shops, farmers market, theatre, and numerous restaurants & pubs.
- 2 Golf Courses a short drive away near Truro and St Austell.
- 12 miles to the famous Eden Project.
- Horse riding along the sweeping sandy beach of Perranporth.
- Easy driving distance to 8 of the Great Gardens of Cornwall, including the Lost Gardens of Heligan, Tregothnan, Lamorran & Caerhays; 3 minutes from Trewithien gardens.
Local amenities
- Friendly village pub just 500 yards (image below), with Cornish real-ale, log fire, large garden, and great food, Hawkins Arms.
- The thriving village of Probus also has a post office, farm shop (delicious fresh bread and home-made pasties), convenience store, fuel garage, fish & chips, and a large antiques emporium to explore (opposite the cottage) too!
- Easy transport links to Truro Main Line Railway, regular village bus services & National Express coach stop with direct services to London, Exeter and South English coast.
Family fun
A wide selection of family fun for all ages can be found within 30 minutes driving. Dairyland, near Newquay, is perfect for little ones who love animals, at certain times of the year they can enjoy milking the cows and bottle feeding lambs! Callestick farm also provides children with opportunities to get close to farm animals, and they make their own delicious home made Cornish ice cream on the farm too, perfect for cream teas! Holywell Bay Fun Park is ideal for older children with a Go Karting track, or the ‘Demon Drop’ at Creally’s Great Adventure Park. For days out on the beach there are plenty of opportunities to hire surf boards, wet suits, or kayaks for the water sports enthusiasts. For a more leisurely day out you could ride the Lappa Valley Steam Railway, go underground at Poldark Mine (image below), to explore Cornwall’s rich mining history , or visit Newquay’s Blue Reef Aquarium. This is small taste of the host of attractions in the area, with lots of tourist information at the cottage to browse through, we aim to ensure you can make the most of every minute of your stay!
Coast, beaches and boat Trips
Waterlily Cottage is a short drive from the Roseland Peninsula, you’ll be spoilt for choice with sweeping sandy beaches including Pentewan Sands, Pendower, Porthpean, and Porthluney. The children will love exploring the rocky coves including Portholland and Portscatho, and nestling on route you will find truly idyllic fishing villages such as Portloe. For those who enjoy boats, there are a number of options, but particular favorites include a trip to the magical St Mawes which enables you to jump on a boat trip across the bay to Falmouth, taking in St Mawes and Pendennis Castles on-route. Alternatively, you can hop on a little ferry boat at Flushing Quay, having enjoyed lunch at the Waterside Restaurant there. You will find numerous boats trips across the Fal River, including a pretty trip from Helford village across Helford Passage, having enjoyed lunch at the Ferry Boat Inn.
Probus
The village still has a post office, and a convenience store, fish and chip shop, so you will not need to take the car out after a hard day at the beach!
Near neighbour to the cottage is the romantic 15th century church of St Probus and St Cuthbert, this magnificent church boasts the highest bell tower in Cornwall, and the delightful sounds of church bells frequently fill the village square, and the sounds is a joy to wake up to on a Sunday morning in the cottage. This peaceful, yet thriving and friendly village has many more amenities, including a hair dressing and beauty saloon, a fuel garage, and a children’s play ground
Garden lovers
The cottage is perfectly located for garden lovers, making it possible to reach 8 of the 12 Great Gardens of Cornwall within a radius of 45 minutes driving. For those that prefer to stay closer to home, just 3 minutes from the cottage are the magnificent Trewithen gardens (image below), complete with red squirrel enclosure; and a short hop further on, you will find Caerhays Castle and gardens with its magnificent beach setting close to Porthluney Cove. Daytrips within 30 minutes drive include the mystical Lost Gardens of Heligan, gold winner of the Tourist Board’s Garden of the Year 2014 , the famous Eden Project, and several National Trust estates including Trerice Manor, and the simply stunning 5 miles of walks through Trelissick estate with sweeping views across the Fal estuary.
Walkers and cyclists
There is a wealth of wonderful coastal and countryside walks for all abilities. Within 5 minutes drive you will find the peaceful Tresillian river, a gentle stroll along this tidal waterway provides plenty of opportunities to see wildlife, particularly birds, and several lovely pubs to stop off and enjoy lunch on route. If you prefer a more energetic walk, Dodman point will reward you with wonderful views, being the highest headland on the South Cornish Coast, amongst the many wonderful walks along the South West Coast Path. Both walkers and cyclists will appreciate the local World Heritage sites which form the Cornish Mineral Tramway around Camborne and Redruth, and the trails around St Austell, Charlestown and the Luxulyan Valley, all within 20 minutes of the cottage. The Pentewan off road coastal Trail to Mevagissey is a must see, and cycle hire is easy too. The cottage contains a file packed full of walks close to the cottage, and further afield suitable for all tastes, complete with detailed maps and information on local woodlands, Cornwall Wildlife Trust reserves, and local history walks.
